How do I register for classes?

Is there a cost for the program?
All programs are at no cost to participants. However, your commitment to completing the program is highly valued and recommended. -
What are the requirements to be enrolled?
At 19, you may register for classes. If you are 17 or 18, you must bring a copy of official withdrawal forms from public school and have a parent or guardian attend the first day of registration to sign your forms. At 16, you must submit a court order that indicates you are ordered to get a GED.

What do I need to bring to the registration?
You need to bring a copy of your picture ID.
Approved forms of ID include:
• Birth certificate;
• Official record showing date of birth;
• Baptismal record;
• DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty;
• Driver’s license;
• Federal, state, or local government identification card;
• Hospital record of birth;
• Passport;
• Public assistance/social service records;
• School records;
• School identification card;
• Work permit
• Native American tribal document;
• Other official documents issued by a federal, state, or local government agency, such as discharge documents from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, with date of birth included, or a voter registration card or certificate; or
• Other official documents issued by a foreign government agency, such as a consular identification card. -
How long does it take to register?
Registration may take up to two days depending on the site. You should expect to spend approximately 6 hours.

How long will it take me to get my high school equivalency or GED?
The pace of the programs depends on how quickly you can master the concepts and pass the required sections of the GED.

Do you offer GED testing?
No. However, we can refer you to sites that offer testing and assist with cover the cost of the test.

What is distance learning?
Distance education is a flexible and convenient way to earn your GED or improve your English language skills from the convenience of your home or any place with an internet connection.

How many hours will you be required to participate each week in distance learning classes?
You may access your new online class any time and any place that has an internet connection – 24 hours a day/365 days a year. To remain enrolled, you must use the program for at least three hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. Failure to do so results in loss of privileges. We encourage you to study for more than the minimum program requirements. Remember, the more you work, the faster you will reach your goals.

How can I keep track of my progress in the program?
The online program keeps track of your work in the program. During the training session, you are shown how to track your time and given contact information for our staff who can assist you in tracking your progress.

Can I get help if I get stuck on a section or have a question?
Yes! You will be supported by a qualified instructor via telephone, email and face to face instruction (if needed). Two DL hotlines staffed by members of our team can assist with technical and instructional questions Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. However, students are encouraged to call the hotline at anytime and leave a message. You will receive a response within 24 hours (except on weekends and holidays).

I lost my GED certificate of completion. How can I get another copy?
You can obtain a free verification letter or a copy of the GED Certificate for $5 from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) website.
You must provide a date of birth and social security number for identification. If you do not have a social security number, we recommend you contact the TEA to see what other proof of identification you can provide.
